The concert project “100 BPM for Gdynia’s 100th Anniversary” is a concert series showcasing Gdynia’s rapidly developing young alternative scene, which is making its presence felt with increasing confidence on both national and international stages. The project draws on the heritage of the local new wave, rock and experimental scenes, which have been shaping the cultural identity of the city for decades. It is not only a series of concerts by those just starting out, but also a showcase of the mature and valuable acts that have been shaping Gdynia’s musical identity for decades.
This is a series of 12 concerts taking place in various districts of Gdynia from March to December, forming a year-round programme as part of the city’s centenary celebrations. This is a long-term initiative aimed at showcasing the diversity of new music created in Gdynia, as well as highlighting the appeal of less obvious urban spaces as venues for artistic activities. The long-term nature of the project is underlined by the launch on 31 March of the first curated playlist of Gdynia’s music scene, which provides a comprehensive overview of what is happening on our city’s music scene at the click of a button.

Plots
The Gdynia-based duo Plots blends various genres of music described by broad and somewhat vague adjectives such as ‘electronic’ and ‘alternative’. This lack of specificity works in their favour, however, as it allows for great freedom within an aesthetically cohesive sound, built on gentle vocals and moving synth chords. One might detect elements of trip-hop or even influences from Radiohead here, but the only real unifying factor is a generous dose of emotion delivered in a very subtle manner. This is the next generation of the Gdynia/Tri-City Alternative Scene, genetically linked to bands such as Rocka’s Delight, Pancerne Rowery and Legendarna Grupa Marylin Monroe.
Band members: Łukasz Fudala – vocals, bass; Szymon Krzymiński – keyboards; Mikołaj Dobies – drums.
Hedone
Hedone was formed in the early 1990s in Łódź. The band is one of the most innovative groups, defying categorisation. It is safe to say that it has been an extremely valuable, indeed indispensable, part of the Polish music scene over the last four decades.
After 15 years of silence, Hedone returned with a new album, ‘2020’, released on 31 December 2020. Maciej Werk rarely records albums, but when he enters the studio, it means he has something important to say. This was certainly the case with “2020”, unquestionably the band’s most musically mature album to date. Following the ear-splitting “Werk”, the contrasting “SancT.V.arium” and the band’s “Playboy”, the time has come for twelve compact tracks that form a coherent narrative about the passing twelve months, and above all the emotions and thoughts that were relevant in 2020 and will remain relevant in the future.
Following the release of “2020”, the band – now featuring keyboardist Wojciech Król (Clicks, Controlled Collapse) and vocalist Izes – played gigs at festivals including Castle Party (2021), Jarocin (2022), Opole Alternatywa (2022), Summer Dying Loud (2022), Łódź Summer Festival (2023) and many others. In 2022, GAD Records released the long-awaited reissue of their 1994 debut album “Werk”. On 12 July 2024, the album ‘600 Lat Samotności’ (‘600 Years of Solitude’) will be released, comprising nine Polish-language tracks about transience and passing away, but also about maturity and fulfilment in life.
The material was co-produced and mixed by Marcin Bors.
Band members: Maciej Werk – vocals, guitar; Izes – vocals; Wojciech Król – keyboards, vocals.
