The celebrations of Gdynia's 100th anniversary continue! The first Saturday shows of the unique spectacle ‘It all started with the sea. A tale about Gdynia’ took place. Those who saw it say: it's a must-see! The next opportunity to enjoy the visual spectacle using 3D mapping technology on the façade of the Gdynia City Hall building will be on Sunday, 15 February. The first show will start at 5:30 p.m., with subsequent shows looping every half hour. The last show starts at 9:30 p.m.
‘It all started with the sea. A tale about Gdynia’ is a half-hour show on the façade of the City Hall building at 52/54 Marszałka Piłsudskiego Ave., best viewed from the Central Park across the street. The magical story begins with legends and Slavic beliefs intertwined with historical facts. We wander with the characters surrounded by visual effects, music and light through the centuries, then decades, up to the present day. However, the tale goes far beyond the stories well known to the residents of Gdynia.
The film shows, among other things, how Gdynia came into being. It presents its development, builders, maritime power and landmark events in the city's history. It also shows it as a dream destination and an unconventional place that attracts hard-working and creative people. It is a journey full of emotions, light, sounds and visual effects.
Maja Gadzińska, an actress at the Danuta Baduszkowa Musical Theatre in Gdynia and ambassador for the 100th anniversary of Gdynia, was the narrator of the show.
The mapping was scheduled for the weekend of 14 (Saturday) and 15 (Sunday) February. The first shows have already taken place. The residents of Gdynia whom we asked about their impressions on Saturday were unanimous. ‘It all started with the sea. A tale about Gdynia’ is simply a must-see.

I really like the show, it's very well done, the essence of Gdynia in half an hour. It looks wonderful, so I recommend it to everyone, you can really reminisce about history, if you remember it. I was captivated by the Market Halls and Batory, says Jola, a resident of Gdynia.
A very impressive story of Gdynia from the very beginning. We liked it so much that we're staying for a second time to watch it again, said Kalina and Marcin.
It's worth coming, it's a beautiful story of our city. We've been amazed by the centenary of Gdynia for a few days now and we're very impressed, said Katarzyna and Tomasz, residents of Gdynia. As always, the shows here in the centre of Gdynia and at the City Hall are nice, but this show is unique. We invite everyone to come and see and participate in this grand celebration of the 100th anniversary of Gdynia.
I think it looks great, very neat animations. It's a bit cold, the weather isn't great, but the visual effects are fantastic, you can see a lot of details. The story is told in a cool way, you want to listen to it. It's great how Gdynia is shown as a woman, says Iza.
