Special issue of ‘Dziennik Bałtycki’ for Gdynia’s birthday

On Friday, 6 February, you can buy a special issue of ‘Dziennik Bałtycki’ devoted entirely to Gdynia. The paper version of the newspaper is available in newsagents and kiosks throughout the voivodeship, and the electronic version can be read on the ‘Dziennik Bałtycki’ website. However, this is not the end of the special editions. The next one is already being prepared for 10 February, the city's birthday. It will be distributed free of charge in Gdynia and... Warsaw.

Maciej Sandecki, editor-in-chief of Dziennik Bałtycki, encourages readers to purchase Friday's edition.

The cover of Friday's edition of Dziennik Bałtycki is entirely devoted to Gdynia. Why? Because in a few days, Gdynia will celebrate its 100th anniversary. The issue includes an interview with Mayor Aleksandra Kosiorek, an interview with writer Grzegorz Piątek, and we will also consider what would happen if Gdynia did not exist. Please visit newsstands or our website, invites the editor-in-chief on social media.

The special issue also features an article about the Iron Woman, Mayor Franciszka Cegielska, the Modernist City Centre of Gdynia, which is awaiting inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List, patriotism in Gdynia, and a birthday run.

On 10 February, Gdynia's birthday, a collector's edition of Dziennik Bałtycki, styled to look like a historical publication, will be released to mark the 100th anniversary of Gdynia, with a print run of 40,000 copies. The newspaper will be distributed in two cities – in Warsaw, at the main underground stations, and in Gdynia: in the city centre and during the show on 10 Lutego Street.

The edition will be a comprehensive story about the city – from its birth to the present day. Readers will find materials presenting the history of Gdynia's creation and the development of the port. There will be archival photographs showing the city from years ago, juxtaposed with images of the contemporary city. The publication will also feature profiles of prominent figures associated with the city, such as Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski, Tadeusz Wenda and Franciszka Cegielska. A separate section will be devoted to Gdynia's modernism and the history of the Municipal Market Halls.

The publication will also present Gdynia as a centre of culture and events – a city of film and festivals, with a rich theatre scene and the world-renowned Open'er Festival. Readers will also receive a practical guide to the city, including a list of the most interesting places for walks and holiday relaxation, as well as a reminder about the book guide to Gdynia. There will be no shortage of topics close to the everyday life of the residents. The issue will also include space for residents to submit their wishes and elements encouraging participation in the celebrations.
