The rectors of Gdynia's universities will meet on Thursday for a joint debate.

A joint debate between the rectors of four Gdynia universities – the Naval Academy in Gdynia, the Maritime University of Gdynia, WSB Merito and WSAiB in Gdynia – entitled ‘Gdynia! The choice for today. The city for tomorrow’ will open a series of year-long lectures to mark the city’s 100th anniversary. The inaugural debate will take place on Thursday, 19 February at 5 p.m. at the Pomeranian Science and Technology Park Gdynia. Join us or follow the online broadcast.

The series of meetings, which will take place at universities throughout the anniversary year, is an initiative of Gdynia's academic institutions. The aim is to strengthen Gdynia's image as an academic and innovative city. It also promotes the educational offer of local universities and invites residents to co-create a vision for the city's development for the coming decades.

Since its foundation, Gdynia has developed thanks to knowledge, courage and cooperation. Today's universities continue this tradition. Events such as this show how strong the potential of Gdynia's academic community is and how important a role it plays in the lives of residents. Not only as a place of education, but also as a partner in discussions about the future of Gdynia, emphasises Aleksandra Kosiorek, Mayor of Gdynia.

‘Gdynia! The choice for today. The city for tomorrow’

On Thursday, 19 February, at 5 p.m., the first debate entitled ‘Gdynia! The choice for today. The city for tomorrow’ will begin at the Pomeranian Science and Technology Park. The participants will include:

  • Rear Admiral Prof. Tomasz Szubrycht, Rector-Commandant of the Naval Academy in Gdynia,
  • Prof. Adam Weintrit, Rector of the Maritime University of Gdynia,
  • Dr Artur Kozłowski, Professor at WSB Merito, Vice-Rector for Science and International Cooperation at WSB Merito University in Gdańsk and Gdynia,
  • Dr Tomasz Białas, Rector of the Higher School of Administration and Business in Gdynia.

The debate programme was divided into four thematic parts:

  • ‘Gdynia – my city’ – the personal perspective of the rectors and their relationship with the city,
  • ‘Gdynia in the face of a changing world’ – a conversation about security, innovation, the maritime economy and geopolitical challenges,
  • ‘Gdynia – the next 100 years’ – a vision of the city's future, opportunities and threats to its development,
  • Questions from the audience – an open discussion with residents.

The debate will symbolically open a year-long series of lectures given by lecturers from Gdynia's universities, held at their campuses – every Thursday at 6 p.m. No registration is required for the lectures. The programme covers a wide range of topics – from maritime economy, security and logistics, through innovation, entrepreneurship and management, to social, environmental and development issues.

Importantly, the meetings will be conducted in a practical and accessible manner, without specialist language, so that they are understandable and interesting for every resident.
