Gdynia Filmowa (Film Gdynia): A wave that carries us into the future

In 2026, Gdynia will celebrate its 5th anniversary of membership in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN), where we belong to the film cluster.

Film has been a pillar of Gdynia's culture for decades. The Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, the Gdynia Film Centre, the Gdynia Film School, the Gdynia Animation Centre, Millennium Doc Against Gravity in Gdynia, the Summer Cinema in Orłowo, the District Cinema and numerous other initiatives by non-governmental organisations provide a strong foundation for building new, creative projects, developing innovative ventures and international cooperation programmes.

On the 100th anniversary of Gdynia, we want to celebrate its film achievements together and look to the future with hope, as we believe that the film sector has enormous potential to create social change as well as a growing impact on the local economy.

The programme of events to be held in October 2026 under the banner of Gdynia Filmowa will include film screenings open to residents, as well as an exchange of ideas and experiences between the local creative community and our partners from abroad.

We will meet with other Film Cities associated with the UNESCO Creative Cities Network and discuss further prospects for the development of the industry, its challenges, and initiatives for joint projects in the future.
