Birthday concert

Main stage – concert ‘It all started with the sea’
The highlight of the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of Gdynia on 10 February 2026 will be a musical spectacle.

The stage will be located in Kościuszki Square. In the concert area, the history of Gdynia will provide the backdrop for a concert performed by well-known and popular Polish artists.

Mission: an energetic story about the city of the future
The main mission of the concert is to create a dynamic and modern show that breaks with the tradition of commemorative academy. It will not be a sentimental return to the past, but an energetic story about a city that has been developing dynamically for 100 years and looking toward the future.
The message of the show will focus on the key pillars of Gdynia's identity:

• ‘A city of the sea and dreams’: emphasising the miracle of its founding, the vision, entrepreneurship and hard work that built Gdynia from scratch.
• ‘A gateway to the world’: a story about Gdynia as a symbol of modernity, freedom and contact with the world – both in historical terms (transatlantic liners, the port) and contemporary terms.
• ‘Community and culture’: presenting Gdynia as a city created by people, an innovative city that is home to iconic cultural brands such as the Musical Theatre, the Polish Film Festival and the Open'er Festival.

Structure: A musical performance telling a story
The concert will be a coherent musical and narrative performance, where one musical ensemble (an orchestra) will accompany several solo artists. The script will take the viewers on a journey through the history of Gdynia – from a Kashubian village, through the decision to build a port, the dynamic development of the interwar period, the times of the Polish People's Republic, to the present day and a look into the future.

The selection of artists and the programme will be fully subordinated to this narrative. The audience will hear both well-known Polish hits in new, special arrangements and symbolic songs that have defined the history of the city.

As part of the multimedia and content presentation, video materials prepared especially for this occasion will be shown between the artists' performances, presenting archive images, history and the contemporary face of Gdynia.
