Historic photograph of Gdynia residents

As part of the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of Gdynia, a unique group photograph will be taken, featuring residents and friends of the city. This exceptional shot will become a symbolic portrait of the contemporary community of Gdynia – an image that everyone will be able to return to and find themselves in the history of the city.

The authors of the project have extensive experience in large-format group photography, but the photo taken in Gdynia will be absolutely unique. It will be created using the latest photographic technology – two linked large-format cameras with a total resolution of 200 million pixels, supported by artificial intelligence. Thanks to this, each participant will be captured in extraordinary quality and detail.

A dialogue between the past and the present
To emphasise the commemorative nature of the event, an analogue photograph will also be taken in parallel – using an original large-format camera from the early 20th century, i.e. from the time when Gdynia was founded. This juxtaposition will allow us to look at the contemporary inhabitants in the context of the city's founders, creating a symbolic connection between past and present generations.

A timeless legacy
The project will result in photographs preserved in both digital and analogue form. The original media – digital files and glass negatives – will be donated to the Gdynia City Museum to become part of permanent archive and a testimony for future generations.

Why is it worth participating?
It is a unique opportunity to become part of a collective portrait of the city, a symbolic meeting of the past with the present, a memento that will accompany Gdynia and its residents for decades to come.
The ‘Historic photograph of Gdynia Residents’ is not just a photo – it is a moment of community and pride, captured by the lens for the future.
