WANOŻNICË – graduation performance about Kashubia, prepared for the 100th anniversary of Gdynia

After passing their exams, a group of drama school students go to Kashubia to celebrate the beginning of the summer holidays. They set up camp, light a bonfire, and then the Mòry come... What will the Kashubian spirits and ghosts want to reveal to them? How will this unusual encounter turn out?

The musical performance is based on the songs by Olo Walicki, the author of the albums ‘Kaszëbë’ and ‘Kaszëbë II’. In these projects, the artist created a contemporary, emotional and contrasting vision of Kashubia – a region where tradition meets irony and modernity. The songs feature lyrics in the Kashubian language by Damroka Kwidzińska, as well as by Dorota Masłowska and Tymon Tymański. Walicki's music combines jazz improvisation, rock energy and the poetic language of sounds.

WANOŻNICË means WANDERERS in Kashubian. The performance is a subjective and fragmentary story about Kashubia, in which the creators attempt to capture how the unique tradition and history of this region resonates with the reality of subsequent generations. Do the experiences of our ancestors influence us? What about the past of the place where we live? How is it perceived today by young people, graduates of the Danuta Baduszkowa Vocal and Acting School?

Performances celebrating the 100th anniversary of Gdynia will take place at the Musical Theatre in Gdynia:
• 24 and 25 January, 6 p.m.,
• 25 and 26 February, 6 p.m.,
• and 14, 15, 16 April, 6 p.m.
