One hundred colourful dots forming a synthetic image of a sunrise over the Baltic Sea—this is how the new mural on one of the residential buildings in the Karwiny district appears. The project was created by the Traffic Design Association to mark Gdynia’s 100th anniversary.
At the end of December 2025, a new mural appeared on the wall of a building on Kruczkowskiego Street in Karwiny. It consists of 100 colourful circles—one for each year of the city’s history—arranged to depict a sunrise over the Baltic Sea. The mural was designed by graphic artist Jacek Rudzki, with the concept developed by Gdynia-based Traffic Design Association.
The mural was created in cooperation with the Culture Department of the Gdynia City Hall and with the support of the “Karwiny” Housing Cooperative.
“Gdynia’s centenary is also a perfect moment to tell the city’s story through the language of contemporary art. This mural symbolises a city born from the sea and from dreams, and at the same time represents another artistic contribution to this beautiful jubilee,” says Mariusz Bzdęga, Managing Director for Culture and Citizens Activity.

"The mural depicts 100 dots in various colours, arranged in a simplified image of a sunrise over the Baltic Sea on 10 February 1926—the day Gdynia was granted city rights. The work was designed by Jacek Rudzki and executed by three painters: Siarhei Rusak, Ivan Fiaskou and Antoni Bęzel", explains Michał Lech from the Traffic Design Association.
It is no coincidence that the mural appeared on a building in Gdynia at the end of last year. It is a gift from graphic designers for the city's 100th birthday, and at the same time a very original birthday card.
